If you wish to participate in the activities at the center, we recommend that you begin with one of our General Program classes (GP):
- Monday night meditation class,
- Simply Meditate class on Wednesday evenings
- Thursday morning Meditation Class
- Sunday morning Prayers for World Peace which are both suitable for newcomers.
Altogether, we have two different levels of programs, all based on the books of Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso: the General Program which is open to everyone and the Foundation Program (FP), for those who wish to study systematically and in greater depth.
If you are completing an assignment for a world religions class any General Program class or our monthly open house would be appropriate. Due to the volume of requests we cannot schedule individual appointments, however if you attend class there will be an opportunity afterwards to speak with the teacher and other students.
What to Expect in a Class?
All classes at KMC Phoenix begin with a simple guided meditation exercise to reduce stress, tension, and distractions. See our FAQ page for answers to more practical questions.
The short meditation is followed by a talk on how to apply Buddhist principles in daily life. This may include topics such as improving relationships, gaining peace of mind, learning to love, and dealing with anger.
Finally, there is a second short guided meditation designed to help us gain deeper experience of the subject of the class.
After the class there is a chance to meet the meditation teacher, share refreshments or simply enjoy the company of the other participants.
We recommend you wear comfortable, respectable clothing. We ask everyone to take off their shoes before entering the meditation room.
